CNM Philosophy
Generations Women’s Health Center (GWHC) Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) believe that every woman has the right to safe, family-centered healthcare with respect for human dignity and diverse cultures.
Our practice of nurse-midwifery is based on the following tenets:
Every woman and her family have the right to self-determination within the boundaries of safe care.
Every woman and her family have the right to be involved in the health care she receives.
Health promotion and client education are fundamental aspects of health care.
Continuity of care is important to women, and attempts should be made to provide for continuity of care whenever possible.
Childbearing is a normal, natural process, and attempts should be made to avoid unnecessary intervention.
A safe mechanism for physician consultation, collaboration, and referral is essential to the practice of nurse-midwifery.
